Punctuality Challenge – Day 8

In_a_Rush

Boundaries – That is a big word. www.dictionary.com defines the word boundary as follows:

something that indicates bounds or limits; a limiting or bounding line.

The focus of our challenge today from the book 28 Days to Timeliness, centers around setting up boundaries in your life. I began to ponder limits and my first thought was that I need to get a better handle on my computer time. I have been working on a new review team and learning the logistics has been eating a lot of my time on the computer. I know that this will improve my writing and help me learn so much about blogging, but I am seeing that I need to keep my evenings for my family. After looking at this challenge, I am setting some new limits for myself regarding my computer usage. I will keep the computer off during the hours of 5pm to 8:30 and limit myself to 30 minutes on non-designated blogging nights.

Do you need to draw a line in the sand, so to speak regarding people or activities in your life? This is only one area that I chose to focus on, but there have been times in my life when I had to set up boundaries for people making large emotional and time drains on me. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do for your family is say no to things that take away from your family’s purposes and goals. There are so many good activities that we can be involved in. I am learning to say no and chose some of the best things instead of ALL the good things. I had a chance to practice this today when my employer called and asked if I could work any extra this week. I chose to say yes to only 4 extra hours because I knew that adding anymore to my full plate could put me over the edge. I want to keep a little margin in my week so I can enjoy some downtime with the kids while they are off of school for the holidays.

Setting and adhering to boundaries in your life can help me create a little wiggle room in my day and free me emotionally to be “all there” for my family. I think this can be an important part in my quest for becoming more punctual.

How do you think boundaries can help you with punctuality?
