30 Days of Praying for Our Kids – Kindness

Prayingforourkids

We have been reading about the Fruits of the Spirit the last several days in our house. Today I want to focus on kindness. We have been having discussions regarding voice tone and how it conveys harshness or kindness. Today we had lots of chores and projects we were working on. I found myself stopping and correcting the children regularly for speaking unkindly. It seems when we have lots of free time around here (aka summer) we tend to have more disagreements and disputes. I want the kids to learn to enjoy each other and interact with kindness. After the umpteenth time of correcting someone for one or the other infraction, I found myself yelling in a quite frustrated tone, “speak kind to each other like I am doing!” We all had a good laugh and I apologized and explained once again the reason why we need to pay attention to the tone when we speak to each other. My prayer for myself and my kids centers around this needful fruit of the Spirit. May the Heavenly Father send His Holy Spirit to work kindness in us and our children..
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. – Colossians 3:12
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. -Titus 3:4
In the end, only kindness matters

My Prayer Today

Lord, I praise you for your endless mercy and grace. I thank you for your kindness to me. I pray for a heart attitude of kindness in my children. I pray that you would begin with me. Help me seek You first. You are the source of kindness. Help me repent of any deeds of the flesh and sow seeds of kindness in the garden of my heart today. Help me keep my eyes on you so I might reflect Your character to my children today. In Jesus name, Amen.

My inspiration for this series loosely comes from a prayer card published by Navpress and is available for purchase at this link. This would be a great bookmark for your Bible. I am in no way affiliated with NavPress. I also want to mention my friend Marcy at Ben and Me whom I am joining with for this challenge. She has some great resources available on her site as she is praying for her child’s head, shoulders, knees and toes.
