PraiseMoves – Am/PM Workouts to Begin and End Your Day (A Review)

Are you looking for a way to incorporate movement into your home or homeschool? I went looking for an alternative to Yoga because I wanted to find a way to stretch and keep myself limber and help eliminate neck and lower back tension. I was also hoping to find a way to encourage my kids to be more active. I began looking around and I found PraiseMoves. This one-of-a-kind program was founded by Laurette Willis. She has an extensive bio that you can read here. You can sense by her disposition and countenance that she loves the Lord. She is joyful, calming and knowledgeable. She graciously offered to give me a copy in exchange for my honest review of the product. All opinions are my own.

When I first received the DVD AM PM PraiseMoves, I popped it into the DVD player expecting a standard, run of the mill exercise video. I was very wrong. This DVD encouraged me, convicted me and blessed my physical body from the first viewing. Who wouldn’t love gentle stretching postures accompanying the Word of God being spoken aloud in your home?  I was able to share this with my kids and it will be a part of our exercise library for years to come. I am planning to purchase some of the other titles in the near future.

Parts of the AM workout are filmed in Marco Island, Florida on the beach. It has some beautiful scenery. My husband and I spent our honeymoon on Marco Island, so this location has a special place in my heart! The instructor, Laurette Willis, shown below, has a quiet, soothing demeanor and voice that was very calming to me. Annoying voices on exercise videos can turn me off and this DVD has none of that. I enjoyed the gently spoken Scripture verses and exercise prompts and instructions. The poses were very carefully explained and easy to replicate in my living room, without any special equipment. I even had my 10-year old son join me and he was able to follow along on most of the postures with little difficulty.

The FOUNDATION of PraiseMoves is the Word of God which we speak aloud or meditate upon while doing the PraiseMoves postures.

There are 5 parts to this DVD:

  • The Introduction – in this portion, the creator Laurette Willis explains the purpose of this video and gives instructions for getting started. She emphasizes the importance of diaphragmatic breathing, correct body alignment and
  • AM workout – a combination of Scripture and stretching exercises designed to invigorate you and get you ready to start your day
  • PM workout – a relaxing workout with a focus on winding down, reflecting on God’s work in your life during the day, repentance and confession, and preparing your heart for restful sleep.
  • Invitation – An explanation of the plan of salvation.
  • More from PraiseMoves – a trailer for some of the other products offered by PraiseMoves

I was blessed by the foundation scripture verse for PraiseMoves

“For you were bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and your spirit, which are God’s.” – I Cor. 6:20

AM PM PraiseMoves is available for $19.95 in physical DVD format or for $14.99 as an instant download. It is a beginner exercise routine for all fitness levels and is geared for adults, but some older children may enjoy it as my 10-year old did. (Prices are current at the time of this review, but are subject to change)

I really loved beginning my day with the spoken Word and stretching and  toning exercises. I have been doing cardio regularly in my three times a week run, but I missed the stretching and toning that used to be a part of my regular exercise routine. Adding this exercise video into my routine has helped decrease my back pain and increase my flexibility. I tend to hold a lot of tension in my neck and back and when I stretch regularly, this pain diminishes or goes away completely.

I got the kids involved and we made the AM workout a part of our homeschool day on occasion. I felt that hearing the Scripture read aloud to the kids was a great way to start our day. It helped us put our focus on the right things from the start of the day.

Even the kitty decided to participate. The PM workout has been especially helpful in allowing me to wind down and reflect on my day. I LOVE the relaxation pose at the end of the workout where I stretch out on the floor and just rest before the Lord. I noticed my son spending a little extra time in this posture and when I spoke to him to tell him it was over, he had an expression of true relaxation on his face. I was blessed knowing that he was headed to bed relaxed and with the Word of God in his heart and on his mind. If you are looking for a great way to incorporate stretching and toning into your exercise routine, and you would like to renew your mind with Scripture, you should check out this product.

PraiseMoves also offers some other great products including Power PraiseMovesThe Gimme 10 Workout DVDPraiseMoves for Children and many more. The PowerMoves Kids character training/ fitness program is another product that is available. It is a curriculum designed for kids and classroom use. I think this program looks like it would be great for homeschools or a homeschool co-op. I think you will be blessed by some of these products and I hope you will take the time to go to the PraiseMoves website and check out all they have to offer.

Jennifer, this sounds wonderful. I’ve done Christian videos before, but never with such a concentration on Scripture. I love the idea….and my boys love the kitty! ;)

We love to hear from our readers. Please remember to comment respectfully.
