Thriving, Not Just Surviving – Day 6

Saying Goodbye to Survival Mode

Day 6

I hope you will visit Money Saving Mom and sign up for the 7- Day Challenge emails. This challenge is a sneak peek of some of the awesome tips that you will find in Crystal Paine’s newest book, Saying Goodbye to Survival Mode, available now at major retailers. I read a pre-release copy of this book and  I just received my hardcover copy that I purchased because I enjoyed the book so much. I am really gleaning some great stuff!  You can read my review here.

All About Accountability

Today Crystal has challenged us to find a person who will hold us accountable to our goals. We are much more likely to stick to our goals if we know that someone is going to check up on us and remind us or see if we have followed through on our plans. I have been thinking about three areas where I need accountability and could use some help.

Exercise – I have signed up for a 10K that is coming up in a couple of weeks and I have really had a hard time motivating myself to stick it out and get out and run. The weather here has been particularly rainy and cold and I have used that as an excuse to just do the minimum. I have a friend who has offered to run with me, but I had felt intimidated because I know that she runs longer distances on a regular basis than I do, not to mention she is much faster than me. She has come over for the last two weeks and run with me once a week. That has been very motivating because I realized that I don’t push myself as hard when I run alone. I am much more apt to slow down or take a break when I am alone than I would be when running with a friend. I know that I will accomplish this goal of running the 10K, but it has been so much more fun doing it with a friend.

Eating Well – I have committed to a low-glycemic lifestyle (you can read my story here) and I have two friends who have taken this journey with me. We text each other recipes, share our numbers on the scales, encourage each other, etc. I could not have lost the weight without them. I know that accountability has been the key. I am within a few pounds of goal weight now and I don’t want to lose momentum. I think that I will begin using a food journal for the next couple of weeks and ask my friends to check up on me as I strive for the goal.

Housekeeping – I let things slip around here over the holidays and I made a resolution to follow a housekeeping plan again to help get things back in order. I have been using the  Confident Mom Planner for the last three weeks and I love the ability to check off chores each day. I have not been consistent every day, but I have been able to complete the tasks on Saturday that I missed during the week. I have really enjoyed the feeling of having a clean house at least once a week. LOL! My next goal is to attack the clutter in my basement and I am going to need some help with that. I am thinking of asking a friend to help and then returning the favor at her house.

How are you planning to incorporate accountability in your life to help you reach your goals? I would love to hear your ideas in the comments.
